Review of the day

A horse walks into a bar. The bar man says, ‘why the long face’ ?!?!!?

The horse doesn’t get the joke though – and starts to explain what has happened that afternoon…

‘So’, says the bar man, ‘you tipped 6 horses; 3 of them traded at odds on in-running – but non of them won. My that is unlucky’….

‘If only you knew the half of it’ replied the horse glumly… L

So, on the back of Our Island yesterday, that means that 4 of the last 7 TVB tips have traded at odds on in-running and not one of them has won.
I really don’t know what else I can do in the quest to get a winner…

Those bare numbers don’t even do justice to how unlucky we were today…

If In Compliance had not clouted fence after fence in the Becher chase, he would surely have won.
To finish fifth, beaten less than 3 lengths, after jumping as he did, was a miraculous performance…

And all this is ignoring the performances of the ones that got away !
As I mentioned in the write-up Little Josh, was a borderline call as a tip – so needless to say, he grimly battled to victory in the finale at Aintree.
Whilst I toyed with a saver on Triptico at Chepstow – and so naturally, is was he who got the better of Highway Code.

Over at Navan, Roi De Mee did indeed take advantage of his much lower hurdles rating; whilst Oscar Wells made amends for his Punchestown fall – and Cootamundra ran a cracking race to finish second.

It didn’t go quite so well at Wetherby, where Alands Island lost out to Yurok by a neck in the novice chase. I suspect both horses will prove to be a fair way above average.
Whilst War Poet was a bitter disappointment in the handicap hurdle. He looks one to be wary of at the moment.

The final word of the day must however go to Sprite Sacre..
There seemed to be some incredulity about his performance today – but I’ve no idea why…
It was surely clear to anyone who watches racing that he was something very special – long before he took today’s Tingle Creek field apart.
As with Frankel , he is just something we need to watch and treasure.

There will certainly be no long faces if he ever walks into a bar ;)

TVB.
